Meet Oppy, the official mascot of the Santos Tour Down Under who embodies our nation’s rich cycling heritage.
The name comes from legendary Australian rider Hubert Opperman OBE, who captivated the world with extraordinary stamina and endurance during the 1920s and 30s. He was an inaugural inductee in Cycling Australia’s Hall of Fame and remains the only rider to win the national road race four times.
Like Oppy's namesake, it represents dedication, grit and an enduring passion for cycling. Oppy is also hungry to inspire a new generation of cyclists and redefine what’s possible on two wheels.
You’ll see our vibrant, reinvigorated kangaroo out and about during the race as Oppy wins over a legion of new fans - both here and through millions of viewers around the globe.
