A newbie's guide to the Santos Tour Down Under jerseys
The Santos Tour Down Under has its own classification jerseys for the various winner categories, unique to the spirit of Australia's greatest cycling race.
If you don't quite know all the different colours and what they mean, no worries! We're here to help.
There are four Santos Tour Down Under classification jerseys awarded after every stage of the race, with each jersey recognising a different type of win during the race, depending on the style of rider.
Here's your guide to the classification jerseys of the Santos Tour Down Under.
Santos Ochre Leader's Jersey
The Santos Ochre Jersey is awarded to the rider with the fastest cumulative time at the end of each stage - the leader of the 'general classification - and the overall winner at the end of the race.
Ochre is the colour of the iconic South Australia outback, and is unique among the general classification jerseys in the UCI WorldTour.
The most recent winners from the 2024 Santos Tour Down Under was Stephen Williams (Israel Premier Tech), and Sarah Gigante (AG INSURANCE - SOUDAL).
Ziptrak® Sprint Jersey
The blue Ziptrak® Sprint jersey is awarded at the end of each stage, and the races, to the rider with the most number of points in the sprint classification. The sprint (or points) classification is determined by allocating points to riders at 'intermediate sprint' locations on each stage, as well as the finish of the race.
The first three riders receive points towards the classification.
Most recently it was won by Sam Welsford (BORA - Hansgrohe) and Sofia Bertizzolo (UAE TEAM ADQ).
efex King/Queen of the Mountain Jersey
The polkadot efex King/Queen of the Mountain jersey is awarded at the end of each stage, and the races, to the rider who leads the cumulative efex Mountains Classification.
efex King/Queen of the Mountains points are awarded at pre-determined summits along each stage. This jersey traditionally has a polka dot pattern, which started in the Tour de France in 1975 and has been adopted by other races around the world. The Santos Tour Down Under King/Queen of the Mountain jersey has navy green polka dots.
It was most recently won by Luke Burns (ARA Australian Cycling Team) and Katia Ragusa (Human Powered Health).
Zwift Young Rider's Jersey
The Zwift Young Rider's jersey is awarded at the end of each stage, and the race, to the rider under 23 years of age with the best cumulative time in the race.
The Zwift Young Rider's leader and winner traditionally wears a white-coloured jersey in world cycling, and the Santos Tour Down Under also maintains this tradition.
It was most recently won by Isaac Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates) and Nienke Vinke (Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL)
