Jens Voigt at the Bupa Challenge Tour: Ride With Me!
06 Sep 16
If you ride a bike you’ve been there. You look up the road, muscles burning, and wonder if you have what it takes.
It would be so easy to pull over and rest, easier still to turn around and cruise home. Germany’s Jens Voigt – a former pro and dual Tour de France stage winner – knows the feeling.
His solution? Simple. “Shut up legs. Please shut up and do what I tell you.” Jens has now put the UCI WorldTour behind him but is still very much part of the cycling scene – and he’s heading back to the Santos Tour Down Under to ride with the people.
Jens’s Shut Up Down Under team will take on the full 157.5km Bupa Challenge Tour between Norwood and Campbelltown, a journey to be tackled by the world’s best riders just hours later.
A private team event the night before will set the scene, with everyone to receive a special Shut Up Down Under jersey. Best of all, you’ll join Jens at the start line and be part of his peloton.
“One of the reasons I always come back to the Santos Tour Down Under is that I just love the beautiful countryside,” Jens says. “I just love riding along the water, I just love the mountains, the vineyards and the enthusiasm of the fans. It’s just like the Tour de France.”
It may have a grand tour atmosphere, but the Santos Tour Down Under is also loved for the way it takes fans up close to their cycling heroes.
On the Shut Up Down Under team you’ll share the road with a true legend of the sport: an all-round good guy loved for his ability to push past pain. That uphill slog on your morning ride just got a little easier.
