Cancellation: Questions and Answers

What has happened?

Owing to forecast temperatures over 40 degrees, the Event Organisers have enacted the automatic cancellation policy of the event’s Extreme Weather Safety Plan. As a result the Family Ride is now cancelled.

Why is it being cancelled?

The Santos Tour Down Under maintains an Extreme Weather Safety Plan as part of the terms and conditions of the event. This Safety Plan dictates that for forecast temperatures over 40 degrees, the Family Ride will be cancelled.

Who is consulted in the process?

The decision was made following extensive discussions with the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and South Australian Police (SAPOL) and other emergency services were consulted when organisers put together its Extreme Weather Safety Plan.

Can there be an alternative course organised for the event?

The forecast from the Bureau of Meteorology of 40 degrees or above is widespread across Adelaide and surrounding region, so in line with our Extreme Weather Safety Plan, the event is to be cancelled.  While we are disappointed the Family Ride will be cancelled, the safety of everyone involved is the highest priority.

Do I get a refund?

All participants will receive a full refund on the registration fee. The refund process will take place within 15 business days of cancellation.  Refunds will be processed onto the card that was used in the original transaction.

What do I need to do to get my refund?
No action is required. All participants will have their registration fee refund debited to the original credit or transaction card used in the original booking.

Who should I contact if I haven’t received my registration fee refund?

Please email breakawayseries@sa.gov.au with your name and booking reference number to follow up or if you have further questions. Refunds will be processed within 15 business days.

Will the heat affect the Big Screen Video Stage 3 of the Santos Tour Down Under?

At this stage the Santos Tour Down Under Big Screen Video Stage 3 will proceed. Organisers do have the option however to consider modifications and will do so. The race has been shortened for this stage by 26 km. Should there be any changes they will be communicated via the Santos Tour Down Under’s website and social media platforms, as well as through the media immediately.

What if I still want to do the ride by myself?

As the Family Ride is now cancelled, the public are unable to access the Big Screen Video Stage 3 Route at Victor Harbor for riding purposes while the stage is active.

Will there be anything organised at Victor Harbor?

Significant planning has gone into the activities for Victor Harbor to celebrate the race. We encourage people to still enjoy all that Victor Harbor has to offer, including the finish of the Santos Tour Down Under’s Big Screen Video Stage 3 and associated activities.

Will there be anything organised at the City of Adelaide Tour Village?

Each day we have a range of activities planned for the City of Adelaide Tour Village and these will continue as normal. Details can be found on the Santos Tour Down Under website Events Calendar.

During the Santos Tour Down Under, kids aged from six to 12 can ride on the UCI World Tour track, just like the world's cycling superheroes.
