Adelaide Bars

Adelaide is Australia’s wine capital, with incredibly close proximity to some of Australia’s best wine regions, the Barossa, Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley.

Adelaide has been recognised as one of the Great Wine Capitals of the World – a network of nine major global cities which share a common feature - their internationally renowned wine regions. With 200 cellar doors only a short drive away from the CBD, and 18 world-renowned wine regions nearby, it's no surprise why.

For a taste of what South Australia has to offer, check out these ten bars in the Adelaide CBD serving up local wine, beer, ciders and spirits.

Bank Street Social

This underground bar in the heart of Adelaide’s west end is the perfect place to start or end your night out on the town. These guys are very South Australian, serving up local craft beer and cider, boutique SA wines and Australian gin and whiskey. Their commitment to the best young local winemakers and brewers is evident in their changing wine list and bar taps, with new releases every month. They also serve up delicious house-made pizzas to satisfy those late night cravings. Visit the Bank Street Social website.

Cantina Sociale

Cantina Sociale, in Adelaide’s south west corner, was invented by friends for friends. Their focus is on what’s in the glass, not what’s on the label. They welcome friends from near and far to gather and drink quality, local wine, nibble on a snack or two and solve the world’s mysteries, one glass at a time. Visit the Cantina Sociale website

Clever Little Tailor

This warm, intimate, brick bar in Adelaide’s west end serves up quality, local booze with no fuss or fancy. Their local, small, convivial vibe is testament to their dedication to creating a place where guests can feel comfortable and at home. The drinks selection is small and ever-changing, but always full of top-notch choices. Visit the Clever Little Tailor website.

East End Cellars, The Tasting Room

These guys are all about education; wine education, that is. The Tasting Room at East End Cellars is home to a huge array of wines from around South Australia and some hidden gems from across the seas. Grab a wine of your choosing or embark on a tasting flight directed by your guides at EEC. Each tasting flight is accompanied by a selection of local cured meats and cheeses to keep your hunger at bay. Visit the East End Cellars website.

Iberia

This newly-opened, three-tiered bar and eatery in Adelaide’s east end has a focus on true-to-flavour Spanish food and drink, with their bar stocked with sherry, vermouth and whiskey, either standalone or mixed into your choice of cocktail. They also serve some very tasty local and Spanish wines as well as craft beer for those so inclined. Settle into a booth downstairs or people-watch on the upper floor; your choice awaits you. Visit Iberia Adelaide’s website.

Maybe Mae

This isn’t the easiest venue to find, tucked into a tunnel between Peel and Leigh Streets in Adelaide’s west end, but once you’ve found it, you’ll never want to go anywhere else. The perfect place for an afternoon tipple or an evening cocktail, the venue is small and cosy, evoking a ‘secret society’ vibe that’ll envelop you in 1950’s style. Visit the Maybe Mae Facebook Page.

Mother Vine

The East End strikes again with this hidden gem on Vardon Avenue. Mother Vine is a brainchild of the guys behind The Tasting Room at East End Cellars, so you’re sure to find the bar well-stocked with great quality local wines. Ask the staff for their latest recommendations and you’ll never be disappointed. Visit the Mother Vine website.

NOLA

Craft beer and whiskey lovers, rejoice; NOLA is here to help. This New Orleans inspired bar is home to Creole and Cajun comfort food, a selection of local beer and Australian whiskey at the bar and a list of authentic Louisiana cocktails. Their 16 taps pour independent and craft-brewed products from South Australia, interstate and overseas in a rotating list that ensures there is always something new and different. Make sure you try their fried chicken – you’ll thank us later. Visit the NOLA website.

Proof

This little gem is tucked away down Anster Lane, off Waymouth Street, and offers an intimate setting with a cracking wine, beer and spirits menu from South Australia’s diverse, abundant regions, as well as interstate and abroad. There’s an upstairs patio if you’re feeling casual, or some cosy booths to settle into for those long nights ahead. Visit the Proof website.

This Spanish eatery and wine bar is located in Adelaide’s west end foodie hub Leigh Street. Relax with friends over a local wine or two and watch the laneway fill up with the sights and sounds of cosmopolitan Adelaide nightlife. Friday nights are huge here, so get in early!
