It’s customary to mark turning 5 years old with a special occasion, and The Big Bike Film Night is no exception; celebrating this milestone with “The Best of” The Big Bike Film Night 2015-2019, in Adelaide on Tuesday 21st January 2020.
“What a ride this has been, and what a privilege it is to revisit the many, many inspiring short cycling films we’ve showcased over 5 incredible years and present this - “The Best of“ line-up to bicycle enthusiasts at the Santos Tour Down Under in Adelaide” says Brett Cotter, Curator and Film Pedlar of the Big Bike Film Night.
“This passion project has its origin back in 2014, with an event that shook the bike community in my home town of Taupo, New Zealand- that of a newly installed Giant 3 metre Bike Statue being viciously vandalised”
“From this, an idea, an ambition, and a crusade to help have Taupo’s Giant Bike repaired and back up again unfolded; and the genesis of The Big Bike Film Night was born”.
A collection of the best cycling short films from around the world was assembled, and over the summer of 2015 they resonated with willing and caring local bike communities in Taupo, Rotorua, and Cambridge. From the successful showings, moneys were raised towards the Giant bike’s restoration and return.
This humble beginning lead to the opportunity to continue sharing new and inspiring short bicycling films being grasped by Brett and an exciting journey commenced with this travelling ‘bike-themed’ short film festival. Sharing these inspirational and entertaining films across New Zealand and then in 2017 ‘crossing the ditch’ to help spread the bike stoke with fans in various locations around Australia.
