Trek Time Trial: Willunga Hill
8:30am - 9:30am
Cycling enthusiasts can test their grit and determination to climb the iconic Willunga Hill with the Trek Time Trial.
With $500 up for grabs for the winning women and men’s rider, plus the crowning rights of being Queen and King of the Trek Time Trial: Willunga Hill, cyclists can pit themselves against each other as well as take on the challenge of beating Richie Porte’s record time...
It took years of perfecting the climb for two-time Santos Tour Down Under champion Richie Porte to own the Willunga Hill record.
The Tasmanian took just 6min 34 seconds to get atop of the Willunga Hill summit last year.
It’s almost 3km long, but now cycling enthusiasts have a chance to break Porte’s record where he will feature later that day on stage 3 of the Festival of Cycling.
“The top of that hill has been the scene of some of my happiest memories on the bike, but to enjoy it, I do more than some others do,’’ Porte said.
“If someone comes out firing from the time trial start ramp, with closed roads, the cheer of the crowd and possible tails winds there’s always a possibility someone might be able to break the record.”
