Coupland and Roseman-Gannon Set for Tour de France Femmes

Australian duo Mackenzie Coupland and Ruby Roseman-Gannon will springboard from the Santos Tour Down Under in January to the Tour de France Femmes which begins this weekend.

While it will be Roseman-Gannon’s fourth appearance in the race, for Coupland it will mark her Grand Tour debut in which she will also wear the green-and-gold jersey as the national road champion.

Both riders opened their season at the TDU in South Australia in January with Liv AlUla Jayco after going 1-2 in the national championship road race in WA.

Coupland, 20, said she was excited to make her Grand Tour debut after navigating the Spring Classics and a recent third placing in La Perigord Ladies one-day race.

“To be part of the biggest race of the year is something I didn’t see myself doing this year,” she said.

“It also being my first Grand Tour gives me a mix of excitement and nervousness and I can’t wait to race with such a supportive and motivated group of people.

“Being able to wear the Australian national champion jersey feels really special to me, and it shows off the teamwork and determination we have in this team.

“It’s a dream come true to represent my country as such a prestigious level and I’m looking forward to the atmosphere of the Tour de France Femmes as it always looks so electric on TV.”

The nine-stage race begins in Lausanne on Saturday, August 1 and finishes in Nice on August 9. This year’s route includes the iconic Mont Ventoux climb as well as a 21km individual time trial on Stage 4.

The field will also include Canadian world champion Magdeleine Vallieres who began her season at the TDU in the rainbow jersey for EF Education Oatly.

Vallieres went on to perform strongly in the Spring Classics with top 10 finishes in Strade Bianche Donne, La Fleche Wallonne Femmes and Liege-Bastogne-Liege Femmes.
