Luke Plapp knocks defending champ Durbridge off time trial title

Just two weeks after the Santos Festival of Cycling kicked off, Luke Plapp has knocked off four time champion Luke Durbridge, claiming the elite Australian time trial title.

Inform TMX MAKE's Plapp, who claimed the King of The Mountain jersey at Santos Festival of Cycling in January, completed the 37.5km course in 46 minutes flat, averaging 48.9km/h. Plapp's time was 43 seconds faster than defending champion Dubridge.

The 20-year-old was set to compete in the U23's time trial, but at the recommendation of Richie Porte, changed his registration at the last minute to the Elite race.

Meanwhile, Santos Festival of Cycling women's winner Sarah Gigante has claimed her second consecutive Australian time trial.

Gigante completed the 28.6km course in 40:41, an average of 42.2km/h speed, 17 seconds faster than second place Grace Brown of Team BikeExchange.
