Santos Festival of Cycling and WOMADelaide Announce Exciting New Collaboration

Events South Australia and WOMADelaide today announced a new collaboration for the 2022 Santos Festival of Cycling. A number of WOMADelaide 2022 festival artists will perform at a free event at the City of Adelaide Festival Village during the Santos Festival of Cycling in January 2022.

“The partnership is a convergence of two iconic South Australian major events both committed to showcasing the very best of our state, including our vibrant homegrown creative talent in music, arts and dance,” said WOMADelaide Director, Ian Scobie.

“WOMADelaide is a cornerstone in the Australian festival landscape and as part of the Santos Festival of Cycling we are offering a sample of the amazing acts that will be appearing at the 2022 festival in March.”

Held on Friday 28 January starting at 6:30pm the 150-minute free event will feature live performances by WOMADelaide artists The Shaolin Afronauts, Nancy Bates and WOMADelaide X NSS Academy graduate, Sokel, with DJ, DJ Cazeaux O.S.L.O (WOMADelaide 2020) also appearing.

Ross McHenry from The Shaolin Afronauts, who has performed at WOMADelaide three times previously with other groups, said The Shaolin Afronauts would put on a captivating performance for the people of South Australia and those visiting the state in January.

“To be able to represent SA and celebrate WOMADelaide is something very special. These performers are extraordinary, and we’re excited to do what we do best,” Ross McHenry said.

Events South Australia Executive Director, Hitaf Rasheed, said the initiative is a coming together of a major sporting event and major music, arts and dance event, creating a perfect synergy between the two.

“WOMADelaide is an iconic South Australian major event and we’re delighted to hold the mini concert as part of next year’s Santos Festival of Cycling,” Ms Rasheed said.

Aside from this cutting-edge collaboration, the uniquely South Australian Santos Festival of Cycling program includes an inspiring line-up of entertainment options, award-winning performances and a festival vibe which will allow South Australians to connect and celebrate.
