It’s set to be a pivotal moment in sporting history on Sunday when the women’s peloton line up for the inaugural Tour de Femmes avec Zwift.

The 24th of July will mark the beginning of the women’s eight-stage race which begins at the Eiffel Tower in Paris on the same day as the men’s finale. From Paris, the peloton will travel 1,029 kilometres before a summit finish atop La Super Planche des Belles Filles.

The stages are set to suit the all-rounders – featuring a mix of flat, hilly and mountainous stages including multiple gravel sections.. Out of 24 teams and 168 riders competing, there are eight Aussie riders in the mix for the coveted Yellow Jersey including Australian Road Champion Nicole Frain.

These are the Australian riders making the historic debut in the Tour de Femmes:

  • Tiffany Cromwell, team Canyon//SRAM Racing
  • Nicole Frain, team Parkhotel Valkenburg
  • Amanda Spratt, team BikeExchange-Jayco
  • Ruby Roseman-Gannon, team BikeExchange-Jayco
  • Alexandra Manly, team BikeExchange-Jayco
  • Racheal Neylan, team Cofidis Women
  • Grace Brown, team FDJ - SUEZ – Futuroscope
  • Anya Louw, team AG Insurance - NXTG Team

Each of these riders have a strong connection to riding in South Australia with Ruby Roseman-Gannon finishing in top spot at the Santos Festival of Cycling earlier this year where she competed alongside Alexandra Manly, Grace Brown, Anya Louw, Nicole Frain, and Racheal Neylan, who raced in the Cofidis Women jersey for the first time in the women’s team’s history.

Amanda Spratt has won the Orche Jersey and the Santos Women’s Tour Down Under three years in a row from 2017 through to 2019 where she competed alongside Tiffany Cromwell who has made four appearances at the race.

We’ll be cheering on all these Australian riders as they tackle one of the world’s most prestigious cycling races.

Tune into the Tour de Femmes and watch this historic moment in women’s sport on SBS.
