A guide to the cycling at the Paris Paralympic Games

From the 28 August - 8 September 2024, over 4,400 athletes from around the world will compete across 22 individual and team sports in Paris. Fourteen of those are Australian cycling athletes competing for gold on the track and on the road.

Para Cycling Track

29 August - 1 September

Para cycling track is divided into three types of events: time trial, individual pursuit and tandem or team sprint. 

Two types of bikes can be used on track at the Paralympic Games: standard bicycles and tandems. There’s a bike for each type of disability, adapted to suit the athlete’s needs.

Para Cycling Road

4 - 7 September

Distances for the Paracycling Road Race account for the abilities of the athletes’ different classifications according to their disability. Road races are held across distances between 78km and 125km for tandem riders, 37km and 80km for handcycles, 48km and 100km for bicycles and 26km and 40km for tricycles. In the relay race, mixed teams are made up of three athletes who must each complete two or three laps, depending on the course's length. Time trials are held on a course between 10km and 40km according to athlete category.
