From thrilling climbs to spectacular sprint finishes, the 2025 Santos Tour Down Under had it all. Here are our Race Directors — Stuart O'Grady, Annette Edmondson, and Carlee Taylor — sharing their top 10 moments that defined this year’s race.

1. Narváez’s decisive Willunga Hill attack

The overall title was decided on the iconic Willunga Hill climb on the penultimate stage. Jhonatan Narváez's perfectly timed attack in the final moments of the ascent not only won him the stage but also put him into the Ochre Jersey for good.

2. Noemi Ruegg’s GC victory on Willunga Hill

Noemi Rüegg stormed to victory on Willunga Hill on Stage 2, a win that secured her first WorldTour victory and the overall General Classification. Her emotional celebration with the EF Education–Oatly team captured just how special the moment was and capped off one of the most memorable performances in the women’s race.

3. Sam Welsford's sprint dominance

Australian sprinter Sam Welsford was unstoppable, winning three stages, including the final day in Adelaide. His victories solidified his reputation as one of the fastest riders in the peloton and earned him the Sprint Classification.

4. Romo’s bold attack and solo win

In a move that would earn him the race lead, Romo launched an attack just 2.8km from the finish line. His aggressive move on Willunga Hill showcased both his strength and intent on Stage 3, where he secured his first-ever professional victory.

5. Chloé Dygert’s Stirling sprint victory

Our highest-ranked female rider and World Champion, Chloé Dygert, delivered a commanding sprint win in Stirling after a perfect lead-out from Canyon-SRAM — a standout moment from our biggest name in the women’s race.

6. Daniek Hengeveld's amazing solo win

The Dutch rider Daniek Hengeveld’s amazing solo win on Stage 1 was a real display of power and endurance, demonstrating a powerful and unforgettable solo effort.

7. Jayco-AlUla’s all-out effort on Willunga Hill

Jayco-AlUla lit up Stage 5 with a bold double breakaway, including standout teamwork and commentary around sacrifice at the 7.5km mark. Local favourite Chris Harper and the team gave everything across key stages — Knotts Hill, Victor Harbor, and Willunga — in pursuit of a win that narrowly escaped them.

8. The QOM for Polites

On Stage 3, the Australian women's team executed a flawless setup for Polites, leading to her winning the QOM jersey. Her emotional reaction after the finish captured the spirit of teamwork and individual achievement.

9. Team Australia’s bold breakaways

Fergus Browning and Zac Marriage formed a two-man break on Stage 1, earning equal Most Competitive honours—a first in race history.

10. Noemi Ruegg’s unbelievable comeback

After a late puncture and bike change with just 3.4km to go in Stage 1, Noemi Rüegg delivered an almost unheard-of comeback. Following a selfless bike exchange from teammate Henrietta Christie, it was Sarah Roy who battled against the high-speed peloton to bring her back. It was an incredible display of teamwork that allowed Rüegg to fight her way back to finish a remarkable sixth in the sprint.
